Protecting Communities From The Impacts of Oil Drilling and Hydraulic Fracturing

Panelists will discuss various ways communities and local jurisdictions have attempted to protect themselves from the impacts of oil and gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Examples include passing local bans/moratoria on fracking, creating local permit requirements, passing local zoning ordinances that include drilling and fracking safeguards, participating in the state administrative rulemaking process, lobbying for state legislation, and pursuing litigation. While the focus is primarily on California, examples from other Western states will also be discussed.
