Communications Manager

PSE Healthy Energy is a non-profit energy science and policy research institute dedicated to supplying evidence based, scientific information and resources on the environmental, public health, and climate dimensions of energy production and use. Our work focuses on oil and gas development (e.g., “fracking” and enhanced oil recovery), power plants, renewable energy, energy storage and energy transitions. Much of our positive, dedicated, and high-functioning team is based out of our headquarters in Oakland, CA with staff also in Seattle, WA, Chicago, IL, and Boston, MA.

PSE’s mission is to bring scientific transparency and clarity to energy policy discussions, helping to level the playing field for citizens, NGOs, the media, policymakers, agency staff and elected officials by generating, translating, and disseminating scientific information. No other interdisciplinary collaboration of physicians, scientists, and engineers exists to focus specifically on issues of health and sustainability at the intersection of energy science and policy.

The Communications Manager will be responsible for creating and executing a range of content including social media posts, copy for web pages and forms, quarterly newsletters, press releases and media communications, and fundraising appeals. • Manage and grow social media engagement: develop content for social media based on PSE products and reposting relevant news articles, scientific studies and other content. Engage online audiences to share PSE research and grow audiences.
  • Media work: write press releases and media outreach related to PSE products released so PSE scientists are able to connect with reporters.
  • Trainings: work with PSE staff to ensure best practices for communications and coaching staff on communicating with members of the media.
  • Fund development: plan and execute successful fundraising appeals and support grant writing efforts.

In addition to an ability to meet the above responsibilities, the position will require:

  • Bachelors or equivalent degree in science writing or science journalism, communications or marketing
  • Excellent writing and communications skills
