Alexandra “Ali” Snell is a Community Impact Scientist, bringing science to communities, regulators, policymakers, legal organizations, NGOs, and academia, and bringing community knowledge and experiences into the science. In doing so, the research is grounded in real-world realities, thus making it both more rigorous and impactful. Her research expertise includes community engagement, bi-directional education, and community impacts research, such as surveying, focus groups, and listening sessions. Snell develops methodologies, guides research teams, and delivers actionable insights that inform community strategies, impacts, and storytelling. Her work also spans equitable decarbonization, energy cost burdens and affordability, community resilience, climate vulnerability, and public health impacts of the oil and gas sector.
Snell led outreach for PSE’s key tools, including the Methane Risk Map (MRM) and the National Energy Affordability Tool (NEAT), ensuring they continue to meet user needs and are leveraged for maximum impact. As part of the Methane + Health Initiative, she also leads MRM+, PSE’s technical assistance program. MRM+ connects community organizations, legal organizations, regulators, researchers, and policymakers with expert support to apply Methane Risk Map data to their specific legal, research, regulatory, or community needs – providing timely, specialized analysis tailored to each user’s decision timelines and objectives.
